April Video A Day: Rites of Spring, For Want Of (live 1985)

Today’s video was inspired by a friend posting some pictures of their preteen holding a Rites of Spring album, showing that mom and dad have impeccable taste in DC hardcore classics. Never having seen the band play live (I think they only played a handful of actual live shows in their short existence) I went looking and found this and more from a 1985 set at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. It’s raw but remarkably viewable, and the power and energy of the band comes roaring through even tiny computer speakers. Oh, and yeah I know they were the ‘fathers of emo’ or whatever you want to call them, but I don’t really care–this is just great hardcore, DC style, to me.
