April Video A Day: Groovelily, “Money and Musicians”

I first heard Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn, and Gene Lewin, known collectively as Groovelily, when they were a regular featured performer at the UU Coffeehouse series here in Columbia, SC. Jazzy more than folk, pop rather than rock, their songs were smooth yet emotionally resonant. Fast forward fifteen years or so and the Groovelily gang is now known for doing musicals and musical scores for some great off-Broadway productions, including the one today’s video comes from, “Ernest Shackleton Loves Me.” This clip is part of a series of recordings the band is releasing called the “Every Seven” series, meaning a new one comes out about every seven days. some are clever and comical, like this one, others are more serious fare similar to their earlier work. Either way, it’s great to hear so much Groovelily.
