April Video a Day: Zach Seibert, Ballad of the Whig

Though he’s no longer a Columbia resident, having moved to New Orleans, Zach Seibert is still one of my favorite songwriters to have called Columbia home. Today’s video comes from a performance at the Columbia Museum of Art some months after Seibert had moved away. He came back for this show, and has returned since, so perhaps we haven’t seen the last of him around here yet. This song was introduced as a new one and had no real title that I knew of, but given its subject matter it is quite obviously about The Whig, an underground bar at the corner of Main and Gervais downtown where Seibert played numerous times.
