Pete David & the Payroll Union: Americana from the United Kingdom

Pete David & the Payroll Union

“Americana” as a genre is hardly contained to the American continent, even when the inspiration is. Pete David & The Payroll Union hail from the mother land, Sheffield, United Kingdom, for example.

Their maudlin take on alt-country has been gestating for a couple of years, emerging on the new single “Abigail” as a cross between the country phase of the Jazz Butcher Conspiracy and the careening Gothic calliope of Sixteen Horsepower. (For Southeastern music fans, think Petrillo Relents and The Restoration–string band sounds with a rock ‘n’ roll foundation.)
