Lefty Frizzell Loved His Mom and Dad, Too

listening to Lefty Frizzell today after I was reminded that it’s the anniversary of his death in 1975, I came across “The Mom and Dad Waltz.” Corny yet heartfelt in the way that only classic country can be, I’m posting it here in honor of another anniversary this month–my own mom and dad’s 47th wedding anniversary.

I credit them in large part with at least some of my musical taste; some of my earliest memories of listening to music are of Saturday nights in front of the television, where we’d have Hee Haw on at seven and thenThe Lawrence Welk Show at eight o’clock. I don’t remember it, but I’d be willing to bet that Lefty himself may have appeared on Hee Haw before his untimely passing–If he did, I surely saw it, thanks to my mom and dad.
